Welcome to the beginning of “The Journey,” a series where I share the unfolding chapters of my life, both personal and professional. This space isn’t just a reflection of the past; it’s about where I am today and where I aspire to be. My goal is simple: to inspire anyone who finds themselves on their own path of growth, ambition, and reinvention.
A Humbling Start
Like many, my story begins with ambition—an eagerness to carve my own path. But the road I initially chose was not the one that would ultimately define me.
In high school, I had big dreams but little direction. I enrolled in the University of Houston to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, following in my father’s footsteps as a structural engineer. It seemed like a natural fit, but quickly, reality set in. The challenge of rigorous academics, coupled with my immaturity, led me to make decisions I would later regret.
Then came Hurricane Harvey—a storm that would change everything. Our home was submerged under 18 inches of water, forcing my family to evacuate. The emotional toll of the devastation and the physical aftermath was overwhelming, and the stress of this crisis only added to my struggles in school.
But it wasn’t just the storm. I had made poor choices. Skipping classes, overindulging in partying, and ignoring the responsibility that came with higher education caused me to lose focus on my long-term goals. After three semesters of this chaotic routine, I was dropped from school—my first major failure in life.
My Second Chance
It was in that failure that I found my turning point. I realized that if I wanted a successful future, I had to take control of my own story. I enrolled at Houston Community College to study Computer Information Technology, not entirely sure of my direction but determined to rebuild.
I embraced the routine that had eluded me before: mornings at the gym to center myself, followed by dedicated study sessions. I made a promise to myself that I would not waste this second chance. By the end of three semesters, I earned my Associate’s Degree and transferred to Sam Houston State University to pursue a bachelor’s in Marketing—a field I felt passionate about and one that gave me a sense of purpose.
Yet, just as I was finding my footing, life threw another curveball. I faced two major knee surgeries in my final year: an ACL reconstruction and a patellar tendon rupture on my right knee. Physical therapy became my daily routine, and the constant pain of recovery, alongside the demands of my coursework, tested my resilience. But I kept moving forward, powered by the drive to graduate. When I walked across the stage to accept my degree, it wasn’t just the achievement of earning my diploma—it was proof that I could overcome adversity.
The Now
Now, having earned my degree and reflecting on everything I’ve been through, I am navigating the challenging yet exciting process of turning my education into a fulfilling career. After months of job searching, I’ve encountered many setbacks, but I remain undeterred. The path to success is never linear, and I embrace the bumps along the way.
In the meantime, I have focused on honing my skills in digital marketing— a field that fuels my passion. I’ve invested in relevant certifications, taken on hands-on projects, and continuously built my portfolio. I know that to succeed in today’s competitive job market, it’s not enough to simply have a degree; you need to demonstrate tangible expertise—and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
What Lies Ahead
Looking toward the future, my focus is clear. I aim not just to find a job but to build something meaningful—a career where I can lead, innovate, and make a lasting impact in the digital marketing world. My vision goes beyond a traditional career; it’s about creating a platform where I can leverage my skills and experience to help businesses grow, all while building a legacy of impact.
This blog is not just about me—it’s about all of us navigating our own journeys. Whether you’re facing setbacks or stepping into new opportunities, I hope my story offers a sense of camaraderie and inspiration. I’ll continue to share the ups and downs of my journey as I grow in my profession and work toward building a brand that aligns with my values.
